Using open source while studying

22.02.2015

These days open source is everywhere in the tech industry and won’t disappear any time soon. However some universities still have to figure out how or if they integrate open source (i.e. GitHub) in their study process.

The trouble is that while students often think of programming as a collaborative act, some universities still think of it as a private, proprietary thing.

Furthermore they need to deal with the fact that their own students are already using it. This also includes students who open source their homework which can be a helpful resource to their fellow students or to get help themselves.

Now you don’t have to learn by creating. You can learn by merge. In some sense it becomes a little bit more of an engineering exercise.
